| A beautiful smile is the most obvious benefit of orthodontic treatment. At Taranaki Orthodontics, we strive to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible, and guide you to understand how you can make your treatment proceed smoothly and efficiently. There are many types of orthodontic treatment. Depending on the problem, not all of them are treated using braces. However, braces are used to straighten teeth precisely and efficiently to improve both the appearance and performance in the shortest time possible. The following is a selection small selection of cases that have been treated by Dr Keng |

Common Orthodontic Problems which warrants treatment |
Crowding |
Before |
After |
Crowding is a common orthodontic problem. Crowded teeth can appear unattractive, be difficult to clean and wear excessively. |
Protruded Teeth |
Before |
After |
Protruded teeth can appear unattractive and be more prone to damage. The lower front teeth often over-erupt and damage the palate behind the top front teeth. |
Deep Bite |
Before
After
The upper front teeth cover most (or all) or the lower front teeth. A deep bite can cause excessive wear of the front teeth and gum damage behind the upper front teeth. |
Impacted Ectopic Teeth |
Before
After
Teeth can sometime fail to erupt into the mouth. Many such teeth can be carefully uncovered and then guided into the correct position with braces. In this case an upper central incisor was saved. |
Missing Teeth & Gaps |
Before
After
Sometime teeth fail to grow, or the tooth that grows is too small to be useful. With braces we can close gaps, and either substitute missing teeth with neighbouring teeth or create space in the correct location so that prosthetic (false) teeth can be placed by your dentist. |
Open Bite |
Before
After
An open bite exists when some teeth don't meet. It can cause eating problems, speech problems, and excessive wear of those teeth which do meet. An open bite can also appear unattractive. |
Cross Bite |
Before
After
The upper teeth should fit outside the lower teeth like a lid on a box. If the upper jaw is too narrow, the lower jaw usually swings to one side to allow the teeth to mesh. A cross bite results. |
