Crowding is a very common orthodontic problem. Crowded teeth can not only affect your smile’s appearance, but can also be difficult to clean and are prone to uneven wear.
Protruded teeth jut forward and are more prone to damage. In addition, the lower front teeth often over-erupt and can damage the palate behind the top front teeth.
In a deep bite, the upper front teeth cover most (or all) or the lower front teeth. A deep bite can cause excessive wear of the front teeth and gum damage behind the upper front teeth.
Teeth can sometimes fail to erupt into the mouth. These teeth can be carefully uncovered and then guided into the correct position with braces. In this case, an upper central incisor was saved.
Sometimes a tooth that grows is too small to be useful, or fails to grow in at all. With braces we can close gaps either by substituting neighbouring teeth or creating space for a prosthetic implant.
An open bite exists when teeth don't meet together. This can cause eating problems, speech problems, and excessive wear of the teeth which do have contact.
A crossbite occurs when the upper jaw is too narrow and the lower jaw swings to one side to allow the teeth to mesh.
