Fixed braces

The braces of today are smaller and more discreet than ever before. We can use them to treat most orthodontic cases, regardless of the patient’s age or type of malocclusions.

How do braces work?

Dr Betty will affix metal brackets to some or all of your teeth, and connect them using an archwire. The brackets and wire, combined with small rubber bands called ‘elastics’ will work together to apply a gentle force on your teeth. Dr Betty will target specific teeth during your regular adjustment appointments to deftly guide your smile into alignment.

Am I too old for braces?

Absolutely not! You’re never too old to straighten your teeth with braces. As long as you have healthy teeth and gums, this could be a great treatment option for you. We have successfully treated many adult patients with our fixed braces.

Our top tips for living with braces:

  • Brush your teeth regularly - Because brackets provide extra places for food to hide, it is especially important to practice good dental hygiene when undergoing braces treatment.
  • Try a floss threader - Flossing takes a little practice to get used to while wearing braces. A floss threader is a great way to make the process a little faster and easier for you.
  • Use dental wax - If there is a bracket or piece of wire that is causing discomfort, you can cover it with dental wax so it doesn’t irritate the inside of your cheeks.
  • Avoid hard and chewy foods - These could dislodge or break your brackets and cause breakages. It’s best to cut hard foods into small manageable bites.
